Thank you for such a beautiful relaxing "personal retreat".  I really enjoyed the peace and quiet-perfect for a time of self-reflection and harmony with God and His creation! The Eagle's Nest room was very cozy-especially enjoyed the private balcony overlooking the Smoke Hole Canyon. Thank you for delicious breakfasts and dinner-everything was truly wonderful! Thanks again for your very special hospitality. - Debbie, Monmouth Junction, NJ

This was exactly what we were needing-a chance to unwind and relax.  This fit perfect and so much more into our hopes and dreams.  The food was excellent, our room (Eagle's Nest) was beautiful, and the best was your hospitality.  We'll certainly be back (hopefully when it's warm and the bears aren't sleeping) to play and enjoy your wonderful locale.  P.S. my husband thought the cat on the sofa was real-LOL - Steph & Mike, Arlington, VA

Ed & Carol-thank you so much for a wonderful Spring get-away.  Eagle's Nest was the perfect room/view to rest and relax.  The hummingbirds were great entertainment, although they need to cut back on the sugar-too hyper! Ed-the food was wonderful, I know you were tired from your day at the festival and you still put together a culinary feast.  Can't wait to make salmon with your recipe.  Carol, you gave us a perfect route to really get a scenic view of WV.  Best regards. - Chuck & Beth, Sinking Spring, PA

What a lovely place! I enjoyed the hiking and we both appreciated the good food and the wine tasting.  Thank you also for sharing your experiences in Africa and Japan.  We really enjoyed the North Fork Mountain room with the fireplace and the amber light from the hurricane lamps.  - Bob & Sue (the pillow people), Brookeville, MD

We absolutely loved our stay here!  Everything was really great-the cabin was perfect, all the extra goodies were very much appreciated.  Carol, thank you for your sweet hospitality and the food was amazing! Thanks for making our dinners on short notice-it was lovely to just stay here and relax. We'll be sure to tell other to come and stay!  Blessings - Steve & Amanda, Green Lane, PA

We've had a wonderful time spending our 30th wedding anniversary here.  Your hospitality has been the best.  We could not have found a better place to vacation.  The food has been yummy! Our cabin was cozy and very comfortable.  We especially liked the front and side porch.  We kept busy (on the days we wanted to be busy) with all the beautiful hiking, golfing, and biking.  Thank you for providing such a nice place to stay for our special anniversary.  It has been our favorite vacation!  - Wayne & Tammy, Mechanicsville, MD

Thank you for making our honeymoon perfect! We truly felt hidden away in our cabin down the hill and enjoyed spending each morning overlooking the canyon and each evening swinging on our porch.  We can't say enough about the food-each and every course was amazing!! And, of course, Stella is never going to forget our stay here...every time that kitchen door swung open she was sure to get a treat or pat!  We'll be back!! - Liz + Dave + Stella

This was our first time to the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia and Keith's 40th birthday.  We had a wonderful stay, stargazing, soaking in the hot tub, and most of all, the enjoyment of dining on gourmet meals.  The Potomac Suite is beautiful, if a bit minimalist.  It was a truly relaxing stay and many thanks to our gracious hosts, Ed and Carol.  - Keith & Patty, Fairfax, VA

Wonderful stay at the Inn, thanks to the gracious hosting of Ed (& Carol, before she left for a well deserved vacation to visit friends).  We stayed in one of the suites, which glowed with the warm sun and was very comfortable. Meals were quite tasty with generous portions and the large table allowed us to enjoy the other guests.  Hikes to the top of the mountain above the Inn (with naps in the sunshine on the soft pine forest-floor), and down to the river below occupied our days.  We rounded everything out playing billiards downstairs, reading in the library, and rocking in the chairs on the porch.  Thanks so much for the stay. - The Lyons Family, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

What a uniquely special place you have here.  Very comforting and welcoming.  The home cooked food was excellent.  Meeting perfect strangers couldn't have been better.  A memory was made here on Andy and my engagement.  This will always be a special place in memory and a special place to return to.   God Bless. - Andy & Tarra, Thompson, PA

We absolutely love everything up here on this beautiful mountain – the view, the hike, the Inn and the excellent food!  So restful and peaceful – perfect place to get away.  Hope to come back very soon!  God Bless you both. - Edwin & Linda, Somerset, KY

Thank you so much for a lovely get-a-way weekend.  We thoroughly enjoyed our time relaxing, breathing deeply, and enjoying God's beautiful creation.  We will look forward to our next visit.  God's Blessings - Cindy & Luke

Thank you so much for the wonderful, relaxing stay.  We felt like we were staying with family, (except maybe even better! ha-ha!) The food was the best we've eaten in a long time! We will be back after I get back from Iraq-it will be something for me to look forward to! - Claudia & Bill

We wanted to find a place to blend extreme adventure with all the comforts of home.  We found that and more at the North Fork Mountain Inn!!  It was awesome to be able to come "Home" from rock climbing straight into an evening of wine tasting and fine food.  Thanks again, Sara & Brandon Between the natural beauty, welcoming people, and good food...you couldn't ask for much more.  We felt very welcomed here and relaxed....which was much needed.  Thank you for your superior hospitality.  We'll see you in the future, Lord Willing! - The DeVores

Carol-if you can do all of this on your own-we can only imagine what it is like when Ed is here!  We had a fantastic time in your beautiful home.  Thank you for allowing us the freedom to put the "train in the tunnel" for a spell.  it really needed it.  We hope to see you soon again.  God bless - Linda & Mike, Spencerville, MD

Carol and Ed, you have raised the bar for hospitality.  NFMI truly felt like home-away-from-home, only better!   I hope to return with my husband as I know he will enjoy the hiking and views even more than I did.  And the dogs are in 7th Heaven.  Thank you for opening your wonderful place in the woods with such love. - Tammy, Hazel, & Mo

Amazing getaway from city life! We had so much fun hiking up to the ridge and relaxing in the hot tub under the stars.  The food is great.  Thank You Ed and Carol!! - Julieta & Chris, Cleveland, OH

Carol and Ed--Welcome Home!  We hope your trip to Africa was a huge success and as much of a joy as our (third) visit to NFMI.  Our only regret was that we missed your company for our final night here.  As always, everything was perfect! Ed, your Pork Marsala was without a doubt the best Marsala dish I have ever tasted!  We will be back "home" for seconds ASAP! In your absence, it was especially enjoyable to spend time with our dear friends, Dave and Micelle.  A lot of log home decisions were made in your great room last night!  Many, many thank. - Sue & Frank, Olney, MD

Thank you for a restful respite from travel and work!  It was truly wonderful to visit with you both.   Sorry you have to be gone for the rest of our stay, Ed.  We'll tout your praises all over and back in Japan.  Hope to see you on "our” side of the world again one of these days and come back to your lovely mountain hideaway, too.  Blessings. - Steve & Janet, Tokyo, Japan

What a beautiful experience! We couldn't have asked for a better weekend getaway.  The view is spectacular, the food superb.  Ed, we couldn't have asked for a more gracious host.  We appreciated and enjoyed every moment of solitude.  Having the inn to ourselves was a treat!  We'll be back as soon as we can!  We want to see WV in full bloom.  Thanks and God bless! - John & Bambi, Brownstown, MI

I think I have lost track of days and that's a good thing!  Thank you, Ed and Carol, for providing Jeff and I with the perfect place to relax and regroup!  The Inn is perfect, the room was so comfortable and the food-well what can we say! We loved the hike up to the ridge with our delicious picnic.  Our kayak trip was 'exciting' only glad it didn't take 8 hours.  The dinner after the kayak trip was one of the best we ever had! We will see you again! - Jeff & Claire, Toms River, NJ

Your beautiful Inn is truly a dream come true.  To be surrounded by God's glorious creation within the comforts of sincerest hospitality is truly a balm to the soul.  I sit here on the porch (one of my favorite things to do) and try to take it all in.  Our tummies are well-satisfied, full of delectable foods showcasing His many colors and tastes-all provided by gifted and loving hands.   Our eyes are full of majestic mountains, full of trees and nature singing praises. (Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.)   Thanks for your generosity, kindness, and hospitality.  Your many gifts and talents truly shine forth His light.  We look forward to seeing you again! (John 15:7-8)  Blessings to you. - Andy & Jaime, Falling Waters, WV

These past two days were spectacular-just what the doctor ordered.  Your hospitality and kindness, and talents in the kitchen are beyond what we would ever had expected! Thank you for taking us in at the last minute! - Susan & Grant, Lexington, KY

Thanks so much for everything.  It was the getaway I needed.  You have a beautiful place that God has blessed.  Continue to use it for Him.  - Stacy, Oil City, PA

What a beautiful place, a beautiful Inn, and beautiful time.  Just returning from China, staying has allowed our hearts to rejoice at the beauty of God's creation in America.  We definitely hope to come back and meet you both.  Shana and Bethany were kind hosts (and excellent cooks).  In Him. - Lisa & Shane

Your hospitality and food was impeccable!  The views were awesome and we felt so comfortable.  There is a peace here that fills to every corner.  Thank you for having such a place to come and take in the pleasures of the mountains.  We will return and bring others. - Dave & Janis, Pittsburgh, PA

Ed and Carol-Thank you so much for a wonderful stay.  This is just how we hoped to celebrate our anniversary-beautiful surroundings, good food, and great company.  No doubt you both are using God's gifts to bring joy to those that have the chance to come and visit.  Thank you for your hospitality and generosity.  We hope to be back soon!  All our love. - Amber & Adam,  Raleigh, NC

We can see why you fell in love with North Fork Mountain!  Almost heaven!  Thanks so much for a fabulous stay and "out of this world" food.  So enjoyed our time "catching up" and look forward to seeing you again.  Your friends. - Randy & Robin, Morton, IL   Vocatus Non Vocatus Deus Aderit

We've had a wonderful refreshing time.  The food and hospitality is unmatched.  You make a wonderful team together-everything smooth and organized.  God bless you and keep you in His care always.  Thank you so much with our love. - Jeff & Ruth, Sarasota, FL

What a treat to be here and see the hills come alive with spring green day by day!  It felt like we were visiting family.  Breakfasts like we'll never have again and scrumptious dinners to look forward to with the great company that happened to be here at the same time as we were.   Carol, visiting with you during the days was like being with one of my sisters!  And the porch...ahh-how lovely, how restful.  Peace. - Joe & Maureen, Carmel, IN

Thank you so very much for inviting us to your beautiful Inn and for having Wayne as your celebrity chef.   The hospitality was warm, the scenery incredible, food was scrumptious, and the overall atmosphere joyful and full of laughter. This truly is "almost heaven".  - Nancy, Colorado

It was a great experience working beside a professional in the kitchen and thanks for inviting me to be the "celebrity chef" which I can now add to my resume.  Thanks for such warm hospitality and introducing us to a new group of friends.  You have a wonderful place in a beautiful location.  We shall return. - Wayne, Star Lazy R, Mosca, CO

It has been wonderful being back and everything is just as I  remember....fabulous! Thanks for a peaceful retreat place in the midst of a chaotic world.  Blessings. - Tammie, Missionary to Malawi, Elkhart, KS

We had such an amazing one year anniversary! Ed catered to our every need and made us feel nothing but welcome.  Also, the best food we have EVER had in our entire lives.  The hiking was beautiful and the serenity and calmness of the mountains and woods around us made for the perfect get-away.  We will be back! Another wonderful, memorable stay! As always the beauty and peace were soul-reviving and your warmth and hospitality made us feel that we were visiting old friends.  We look forward to our next visit.  And we love the hiking sticks! - Laura & Andy, Reston, VA

What a lovely, tranquil little slice of heaven! Thanks for your generosity.  Your attention to detail did not go unnoticed.  The food was fabulous! It was great fun re-connecting with you, Carol, and wonderful to meet you, Ed.  God's presence is evident in His creation surrounding your inn, but also in His two servants-Ed and Carol.  May He continue to use you and this place to further His peace and His Kingdom.  - Janet & Larry, Ithaca, NY

Thank you so much.  This place is like none other!  It was wonderful.  It is the perfect place to get away from the fast track of the world.  We are leaving relaxed and refreshed.  The food and hospitality was great!  Thanks also for your part in celebrating our 50th! - Bill & Jane, Morton, IL

Eight old friends gathered with Carol and Ed for the 13th reunion of bridge playing couples.  What a treat! We enjoyed marvelous food, a little hiking, Smoke Hole Caverns, and watching a glider fly at the airport in Petersburg.  When Ed lefts us on Sunday, Carol showed that she can carry the culinary load just as well.  A wonderfully relaxing time. - Bob & Gloria, Paul & Nancy, Dan & Carol,  Bob & Carol

Thanks you for creating, sustaining, and offering this incredible place of refuge and rest.  It was a gift to us-a soul-giving, soul-filling respite.  Bless you, as you continue to welcome travelers and extend the embrace of Christ to them! This place seems to fit you well, and you seem to fit it.  Take good care! - Dave & Beth, Indianapolis, IN

How can we say thanks for all you have done to make this a meaningful week-end for us.  Dave picked this for my birthday and it has been so special in every way.  The scenery is awesome, the food out of this world.  And the folk who were here this week were all so wonderful.  One of the things I liked the most was the gospel music, the first evening.  I was in the room and I leaned back in the chair and listened to every song.  We loved you both and hope to do this again. - Dave & Loretta, Charleston, WV

We weren't sure we were going to be able to celebrate our 25th because of life's circumstances, but we decided to throw caution to the wind and headed up the mountain to your wonderful Inn.  We are so glad we did...this is truly a "little piece of Heaven"... the people we met were fantastic and we had a great time.  Thank you Ed and Carol for a great 25th. - Juetta & Ron, Westernport, MD

Thank you for your hospitality and for making us feel welcome even before we got here.  North Fork exceeded our expectations, and we can't wait to return with our friends and family.  It's the attention to detail that we will always remember; from the inspirational sayings to the hiking sticks to the detailed map of the trail (a godsend if you get lost), it's the selection of teas, and taking the time to find out what we like, and remembering the nuances every day.  The inn (and its common areas) are cozy and familiar, the gourmet food divine (we now have to favorite your blog to keep up with the recipes).  Our only regrets are not using the hot tub and telescope but we hope to do that on our return.  And we love that people do return, is a testament to Carol and Ed's desire to create a home away from home (without cell service!!) Many thanks also to Brandy for her excellent care and service and to John for the most exceptional massages and introduction to peace, quiet, and relaxation in West Virginia.  With friendship - Andrea, Brooklyn, NY and Claudia, Greenwich, CT & Switzerland

Thanks for a wonderful break from DC and making our engagement so special.  Ed-we appreciate the above the call of duty effort in bringing a picnic and our special bottle of wine to the top of the ridge for the proposal on the morning after your awful journey back from Kenya!  Thank you! - Chris & Kelly, Washington, DC

I can’t thank you enough for all you did for us this weekend.  Wes & I both had a time we will never forget and we will always have a place to return on anniversaries.  I can’t tell you how many people have commented on how beautiful it was.  Thanks for making it all possible. - Best,  Frances

We owe a lot to Ed & Carol.  They were more than willing to share their home with us in any way they could.  They allowed some redecorating with photos, furniture rearranging outside to make room for a reception feast – and it was a feast… compliments of Ed, Carol & their friends who helped out. It was nice to celebrate Carol’s birthday [same date as the groom’s father] while we were here too.  They helped us line up the essentials in town for flowers, nails, table & linen rentals and so much more. We truly could not have hoped for things to go any better than they did!  Much appreciation and gratitude to them both for helping to make this one of the most memorable events in our lives! - Lots of love & thanks,  JD & Melissa

We can’t thank you enough for everything you did for JD & Melissa.  EVERYTHING was perfect!  We are especially pleased you joined us in our celebration. We will be back!  No doubt!  Hopefully this fall. You are very special people.  God Bless! - Gail & Daniel

We booked the whole inn for a midweek corporate retreat. Before we booked, when arranging meals, we asked about other restaurants in the area. Proprietress Carol told us (without arrogance) that she'd be happy to recommend other restaurants in the general region, but we'd probably find they'd deliver the best meal if we were looking for "fine dining." And she was right. Being fairly familiar with the area, I can say the two dinners we had were far beyond anything else I'd experienced in the region. But of course, dinner was a small part of the reason for 5 stars.  For one thing Proprietor Ed is a European Trained Sommelier. Seriously. No really, it's true. Even though you'd be lucky to actually buy wine in a bottle smaller than your head within 50 miles of this place, and even though most restaurants in DC, Baltimore, or even Manhattan don't have an actual passed-the-test European Trained Sommelier ... here is Ed the European Trained Sommelier serving up a wine tasting just for fun. The rooms are nice, spacious, clean. I lucked into the mini-suite, and it was refreshingly uncluttered, had a fireplace, a killer loft, etc. Service was exemplary, Ed and Carol were most accommodating to any special request we had, and were consistently concerned with making sure we had everything we needed. And I'm giving a rave review to the place in spite of the fact that I was inside working for the entire stay. If I could have actually hiked the feeder trail from the Inn up to the beautiful North Fork Mountain trail, this place would probably be pushing 6 stars .... - Yakabod

What a great way to spend our honeymoon.  This was fantastic waking up to the beautiful mountains.  Carol, thank you for your hospitality and good luck in your new venture as inn keeper, you’ll do great.  Hope to see you again soon! - Colorado Springs, CO

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay.  The forest was lovely, the inn relaxing, and the food phenomenal!  Thank you very much! -Kingwood, WV

Carol & Ed – This has been the most wonderful time!  You are on amazing couple and will do very well as innkeepers!  We felt as if we were guests in your home.  Thank you for a wonderful week full of great food, great friendship and a new found peace.  The beauty of the area does not compare to the beauty of your spirits! - Hillsboro, NJ

The first “cabin” guests allowed to eat breakfast and dinner!  And we loved it.  Thanks so much for taking care of us – the inn is beautiful, the food is delicious, and the inn keepers such gracious hosts.  We’ll spread the word. - Washington, DC

Creative cuisine, stupendous scenery, heavenly hospitality and calming comfort. - Larbert, Scotland

Thanks so much for making our honeymoon such a memorable one!   The house is beautiful!  You and Ed were wonderful hosts!  We will see you on our anniversary!  Thanks Again! - Glenville, WV

Thanks very much for everything.  We’re going to miss your excellent breakfasts.  You were both extremely hospitable, always willing to help us with anything that we needed.  We will definitely recommend your Inn to our family & friends. - Long Island, NY

This was the best B&B experience we’ve had; definitely coming back!  The place is gorgeous and your hospitality splendid!  Thanks so much!  - Baltimore, MD

Thank you for a wonderful weekend getaway!  The inn is warm and inviting, but you two truly made the experience unforgettable.  We especially enjoyed the amazing food! - Bethesda, MD

This time, we wanted nothing more than to getaway from civilization and its discontents.  But we couldn’t have hoped for a stay as perfect as this one was:  breathtaking scenery, ultra-comfortable rooms, and most importantly things we never expected:  wonderful people, good cheer, and some of the best food I’ve ever had anywhere.  I don’t now which memory will last me longer, the view from Seneca Rock or your green chili soup.  And I don’t care!  We’ll be coming back and telling our friends about you. - Washington, DC

What a blessing you were to us and our entire family.  We are so thankful for the privilege of being here in this beautiful setting.  We were comfortable, well fed and made to feel the love you gave to us. - Philadelphia, PA
